In April 2016, director Karthik Subbaraj announced. A film start Dhanush in the lead role. Produced by Wunderbar Films. It's a gangster film. Set in New York.
The rights for the film's were later exchanged to Thenandal Studio Limited in April 2017. Then this company have some financial problems. In February 2018, YNOT Studios,
acquired the rights for the film's production. Subbaraj decided to change suite location to reduce the flim's production costs. Santhosh Narayanan scoring the music.
Who worked with the director's previous projects Jigarthanda, Iraivi, Mercury and Petta. In this movie titled #D40. During the official announcement of this project Malayalam actress
Aishwarya Lekshmi will play the female lead role. In her second tamil film. First film Vishal's Action (2019). The film's post production process took place in London in January 2020,
post the completion of the film's shoot. However, production and promotional activities was put on hold. because Covid-19 pandemic situation. Government was stopped. Then later
